Overview

The Agriculture Program at LCCA prepares students for careers in agriculture, forestry, and the trades. Agriculture is the number one industry in the state and has a growing number of jobs to help support it. Agriculture is more than just farming; it’s science, technology, and so much more. Our Ag. Program at LCCA is a rigorous program centered around the “Three-Circle Model.” This model is comprised of classroom instruction, the FFA Organization, and the Supervised Agricultural Experience Project. It’s the foundation for all Agriculture programs in the State and gives students a complete and in-depth experience. Our goal is to help build our students into successful young adults.

The classroom component is centered around our classroom instruction in topics such as AG Science, AG Mechanics (welding, wiring, woodworking, etc.), and Forestry.

The FFA Organization component is devoted to building a foundation of leadership skills that will prepare students for success in both their professional and personal lives. FFA allows students opportunities to compete in Career Development Contests, attend Leadership Conferences, and participate in networking opportunities like FFA Day at the Capital and the Hall County Farm City Breakfast. Students are required to take a leadership test and accrue leadership points through participating in FFA or completing 8 hours of community service with a local community service organization.

The final component is the Supervised Agricultural Experience Project. Students are required to complete a project that connects back to agriculture. Students have done SAE projects related to showing livestock, completing AG Science Fair Projects, working for an electrician, growing a garden, and more. This gives students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in an area related to agriculture.

Expectations

Program Expectations

  • This is an in-depth program and students are expected to come to class, work hard, and have a good attitude.
  • Students are expected to get to know other students in the class even though they come from different home schools. This is very important and replicates the working world where you may start a job not knowing anyone.
  • Students are expected to fulfill their Leadership Test grade points through either participating in our FFA Chapter or completing 8 hours of community service. Students are expected to grow their leadership skills in some way.
  • Students are also expected to complete their SAE hours every semester (minimum 18 hours per semester). These are major grades are a mandatory requirement.
Course Descriptions

Basic Agricultural Science 1
Prerequisite: None
